How to Share Your App Store Purchase History

Blog · 3 min read

There are plenty of legitimate reasons you might need to share your Apple purchase history — tax filing, expense claims, budget discussions with a partner, or resolving a billing dispute. But Apple doesn't make this particularly straightforward.

Why You Might Need to Share Purchase History

  • Tax deductions — Claiming business-related app purchases
  • Expense reports — Logging work-related subscriptions
  • Budget planning — Sharing household spending with a partner
  • Dispute resolution — Providing evidence to your bank or Apple Support
  • Financial advice — Showing an adviser your recurring costs

Method 1: Request Your Data From Apple

Apple allows you to download a copy of your data through their privacy portal:

  1. Go to privacy.apple.com
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID
  3. Select Request a copy of your data
  4. Choose Apple Media Services information (this includes purchase history)
  5. Select your preferred file size and submit

Apple will prepare your data and email you when it's ready to download, which can take up to 7 days.

Method 2: Forward Receipt Emails

Every Apple purchase generates a receipt email. You can forward these to whoever needs them. Search your inbox for emails from no_reply@email.apple.com to find them.

This works for individual transactions but is impractical if you need to share months or years of history.

Method 3: Screenshot Your Purchase History

For quick sharing:

  1. Go to Settings > [Your Name] > Media & Purchases > Purchase History
  2. Take screenshots of the relevant transactions
  3. Share the images

This is the quickest method but doesn't create a professional-looking record.

Privacy Considerations When Sharing

Before sharing your purchase history, consider what it reveals:

  • App names — Some purchases might be personal (health apps, dating apps, etc.)
  • Spending patterns — Your history shows when and how much you spend
  • Hidden purchases — Remember that hidden purchases still appear in exported data

If you're sharing with an accountant, you may want to filter for only business-related purchases rather than handing over your entire history.

Creating a Clean Report

For professional purposes, a raw data dump or series of screenshots isn't ideal. You'll want to present your purchase data in a clean, organised format — preferably as a spreadsheet or PDF that clearly shows dates, items, and amounts.
